The last two years have forced us to spend more time in our houses, causing us to reconsider our living spaces. Whether it’s renovating an interior to configure something that better suits our current lifestyle or adding on more space for a home office or gym, we are looking to upgrade our living conditions. One Garnerville home has taken a big step to do exactly that with a 3 season room.

An Addition Flooded with Natural Light

3 season rooms have many benefits — awash in natural light, they tend to boast A LOT of windows so you can gaze (and feel like you are) outdoors even while inside. Plants thrive in these rooms thanks to the abundant light, and the addition of this greenery further brings the outside inside. They’re a great place for hosting in the spring, summer, and fall, and if you install heating they can even operate in the wintertime so you can stay warm while watching the snow fall. 

The homeowners wanted to bring the outdoors in and this addition does just that. The room overlooks the backyard and pool, creating a private oasis that bridges the indoors and the outdoors. Over ten Anderson windows were installed along with a door. The windows crank open to let in fresh air, and the door provides easy access to the backyard. And the high, slanted ceilings make the room feel larger and more airy. 

This Garnerville house expanded its footprint with a substantial 500 square-foot addition. There is plenty of room for entertaining, working, or simply relaxing with family.

Prepping for Use throughout the Seasons

Because three-season rooms have so many windows, they can often be more prone to letting the outdoor temperatures penetrate inside. To keep the heat and cold at bay – and protect the homeowners’ electric bills – we installed spray insulation to steady temperatures. In addition, we added heating to help keep the chill out, as well as two ceiling fans to regulate air flow and cool the space on hotter days. 

Desirable Features

The room features plenty of recessed lighting and an abundance of electrical outlets to make the room as functional and accommodating as possible. 

On an aesthetic level, the three-season room has warm and inviting 2 ¼ inch red oak floors to ground the space. The soft blue walls and white trimwork creates a soothing energy.

Matching Exterior Siding

For an exterior that seamlessly blends with the rest of the home, we installed double four-inch clapboard vinyl siding.

In addition to giving these homeowners more space to lounge and entertain friends, the additional also increases the house’s value in a time where home prices continue to climb. This investment, then, has short- and long-term benefits: it offers a fun space to gather and also adds 500 square-feet to the house’s dimensions to up its selling value when that time comes.
