Kitchen Renovation in West Nyack, NY
With the kitchen being the heart of the home, it should be someplace in which you enjoy spending time and one that functions for how your family lives. At Loughlin & Son, we specialize in building kitchens that suit your style and lifestyle. We’re committed to taking your vision and turning it into a reality that exceeds your expectations. The project below is one example of our work. We invite you to view more by visiting the Gallery and Projects sections of our website.
From Dark and Dated to Light and Bright
We recently had worked with homeowners in West Nyack on building a new sunroom on the back of their home. They were so happy with our services, that they retained us to transform their kitchen from a dark space into something light and airy for their family to enjoy. The homeowners collaborated with a kitchen cabinetry company to design the cabinet and countertop features and we helped bring it all to life. This renovation truly was transformational. The new kitchen doesn’t at all look like the same room the homeowners started with!
Renovation Begins with Demo
The foundation for this kitchen renovation involved completely redefining the footprint. We started by knocking down the wall that connected the kitchen to the dining room to open everything up. Luckily, it was a non-weight-bearing wall, so we did not need to install a steel beam. Then, we gutted the two rooms down to the studs to create a blank canvas for the new kitchen to take shape.
Behind the Walls
To boost the energy efficiency in this kitchen renovation, we added spray insulation to the exterior walls and batt insulation on the ceiling. The new footprint also required some additional behind-the-scenes work, as the sink was relocated and more electrical outlets were being added to improve function. Our team installed all new plumbing and electrical, including high hats for better task lighting and new GFI outlets for safety.
Flooring that Flows
When you knock down a wall and revise the existing footprint, you encounter the issue of missing pieces of flooring. We installed new hardwood flooring where needed and worked our magic to make sure it matched the adjacent existing floors. The medium stain selected by the homeowners is the perfect foundation for the rest of the kitchen design.
Adding More Natural Light
Although the high hats definitely brighten the room, the real light show is the new windows that flood the space with sunlight. The old kitchen had a single window. We expanded the amount of light by replacing that window and adding two more. All of the natural light plays a key part in this incredible renovation.
It’s All in the Details
Our team capped off the cabinets and countertop, which were installed by the kitchen design team, with:
- The subway tile backsplash installed in a herringbone pattern on one side of the kitchen and staggered on the other
- Under cabinet lighting
- Installation of all appliances
- Trimwork
- Painting
