Home Renovation in West Nyack, NY – Siding, Gutters Windows, Doors, Porches

At Loughlin & Son Construction, we help homeowners bring their visions to life throughout Bergen, Rockland, and Westchester Counties – whether it’s reworking a single room, taking on a full renovation, or a new build. This West Nyack project is a good example of what a thoughtful exterior overhaul can accomplish.

The house had great bones and a great location, but the exterior hadn’t kept up. New siding, windows, doors, gutters, insulation, and two new porches were all on the list. We got to work.

More Than Just an Exterior Transformation

Most people think of a siding replacement as a surface-level job – strip the old stuff, put new stuff on. But when you pull the cladding off a house that’s been around for decades, you’re looking at an opportunity to upgrade what’s underneath before sealing it back up.

With the walls exposed, we brought in spray foam insulation and applied it throughout the wall cavities. Spray foam does two things that other insulation types struggle to match: it creates a genuine air barrier in addition to resisting heat transfer, and it adds measurable structural rigidity to the wall assembly. It’s not glamorous work and it doesn’t photograph well, but it might be the single most impactful thing we did on this project. The home is now noticeably tighter, warmer in winter, cooler in summer, and cheaper to run. That’s a win the homeowner will feel for as long as they live there. A tighter building envelope pays dividends every single month, and with energy costs where they are, the payback period on quality insulation has never been shorter.

Renovations that Kicked-Up Curb Appeal

For the siding, the homeowner chose a steel blue with white trim throughout. It sounds simple enough, but picking an exterior color is a surprisingly high-stakes decision –  you’re choosing something that will define how your home looks and feels from the street for the next 20 years or more. They got it right. The combination is clean and timeless without feeling generic.

We installed James Hardie fiber cement siding, which is worth calling out specifically. Hardie board holds paint exceptionally well, resists moisture and insects, and carries a 30-year warranty. It looks like wood from the street but without the warping, rot, or repainting every few years. For a home in the Northeast, where we get the full range of weather extremes, that durability matters.

New energy-efficient windows went in throughout the house. The old single-pane units were doing the homeowners no favors on the energy bill or the noise front – there’s a noticeable difference when your windows actually seal. We also installed new doors at the front and side entries. Both are insulated, properly weather-stripped, and fitted with quality hardware that will actually last.

To finish things off, we installed new gutters around the full perimeter of the home. By the time we were done, the exterior felt like a complete thought rather than a collection of updates. Individual upgrades can look patchy; a coordinated exterior renovation –  where the siding, trim, windows, doors, and gutters are all chosen and installed together looks cohesive.

Updating the Porches

Both the front and side porches were rebuilt using Trex composite decking. Composite also holds up better against the freeze-thaw cycles that are a reality here in the Hudson Valley. Wood expands and contracts with moisture and temperature, and over time that movement works fasteners loose and creates gaps. Composite is dimensionally stable in a way wood simply isn’t.

The front entry now has real presence  and the side porch gives the family a second way in and out of the house.

This project is a good illustration of what a complete exterior renovation can accomplish. The home looks dramatically transformed from the street, performs significantly better on energy, and will be far less demanding to maintain going forward.
